Get your morning moving in a class with the ŻfinMalta company dancers and one of our expert guest teachers. Once a month for a week or more, local and international professional dance artists are invited to join the company’s morning practice. Techniques explored are ballet, contemporary, and somatic practice. Classes are suitable for young dancers and established practitioners alike. ŻfinMalta provides an open and inclusive space where participants can further develop their professional practice, make connections, and experience life inside Malta’s National Dance Company.

This week of classes will focus on enhancing ranges of movement dynamics. Through a mixture of structured exercises and guided composition practices, we will explore a spectrum of dynamics, from slow to virtuosic, and the spaces in between.

How can the body be soft and strong, slow and light, quick and open, sharp and delicate…? How can our relationship with the floor, with other bodies, support this dynamic range? How can we develop a strong sense of awareness of our dynamic range in order to keep it evolving and expanding? And, quite crucially, how can we bring fun and play into this journey?

Florinda is a dance artist from and based in Malta. She initiates, leads, and supports performing arts projects in Malta and internationally, taking on various roles as a contemporary dance and screendance performer, maker, collaborator, researcher, educator, rehearsal director, and producer. Her practice collaboratively investigates human and more-than-human relations within public spaces through feminist and posthumanist perspectives. She is taking on the role of rehearsal director with ŻfinMalta for various projects over the 2023-2024 season.
