Fresh from the premiere of Dualitá at Dance Festival Malta\, Artists in Residence Rosana Maya and Deborah Falzon\, together with artistic collaborators Benji Cachia\, and Milenaria (Ana Milena Lozada Avella)\, continue their exploration of the work as they develop it into a full-length production.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”]\n RSVP\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Please RSVP to this event to let us know you will be attending[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\nDuring their residency\, Rosana Maya and Deborah Falzon will be researching and expanding Dualitá\, a flamenco work that explores the tensions\, contrasts\, and harmonies that shape human experience. Drawing from the idea that opposing forces can exist simultaneously\, the artists investigate how movement\, rhythm\, voice\, and live music can embody these complexities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”]\n	DUALITÁ: the nature of all things\, a constant amid change. A flamenco dance performance exploring how opposing realities coexist within the human experience\, affirming the necessity of embracing life’s inherent contradictions.\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\n\nRosana and Deborah are two Malta-based flamenco dance artists whose practices are rooted in decades of experience\, interdisciplinary collaboration\, and cultural exchange. United by a shared commitment to exploring flamenco as a living and evolving art form\, they seek to create spaces for expression\, dialogue\, and connection. Joined by multi-percussionist Benji Cachia and singer\, composer\, and vocal improviser Milenaria\, the artists are investigating how dance\, percussion\, and voice can exist as equal creative forces. Through this exchange\, they are expanding the work’s emotional and expressive landscape while opening new possibilities for interdisciplinary performance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an informal sharing of their research and creative process\, offering a glimpse into the evolution of Dualitá and the discoveries emerging throughout the residency. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Photograph by Stephen Buhagiar\, courtesy of Dance Festival Malta[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:AiR2026 sharing / Tara Dalli
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1587042757740{padding-bottom: 7% !important;}” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nAiR2026 Sharing\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \nwith Artist in Residence Tara Dalli\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nŽfinMalta invites you into the studio for a research sharing by Artist in Residence Tara Dalli\, as she brings together the research and discoveries emerging throughout her residency.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”]\n RSVP\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Please RSVP to this event to let us know you will be attending[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]During her residency\, Tara Dalli has been developing a new site-specific solo work for the Malta Pavilion BEJN / IN BETWEEN at the Gwangju Biennale 2026. Drawing from the Pavilion’s theme of In Between and the Biennale’s title: You Must Change Your Life\, the work explores identity\, womanhood\, contradiction and transformation.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Rooted in Tara’s experience as a Maltese woman\, dancer\, and former gymnast\, the research considers what it means to exist between states of being: femininity and masculinity\, strength and vulnerability\, discipline and freedom\, permanence and transformation. Maltese religious iconography\, particularly representations of the Virgin Mary and female saints\, sits alongside the physical disciplines of gymnastics and dance\, questioning how ideals of beauty\, purity\, devotion and achievement are carried within the body. Repetition becomes a key choreographic tool\, drawing connections between poetry\, prayer\, ritual and physical training. Movement accumulates\, shifts and breaks down over time\, becoming a mechanism for transformation.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Costume also plays a central role in the work. Created in collaboration with costume designer Zoe Camilleri\, traditional Maltese crocheted lace and doilies are reworked into a full-body garment\, evoking veiling\, religious imagery and domestic craft traditions. This is placed in tension with an oversized masculine suit\, allowing identities to shift through the acts of dressing\, undressing and transformation.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an informal sharing of Tara’s research and creative process\, offering a glimpse into the work as it develops towards its presentation at the Gwangju Biennale 2026\, in South Korea. \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text css=””]Photograph by Ines Bahr[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
