We will then put these qualities and discoveries in practice through structured phrases and exercise\, accompanied by carefully selected\, mostly groovy music.”  \n  \n  \nAbout Zoe Camilleri  \n  \nMaltese- based freelance artist and dancer\, Zoe Camilleri\, started dancing at the age of 3 with the College of Dance. At the age of 18 she went into full- time training at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. His interest in understanding the gaze as a form of drawing – its perceptual\, physiological and cultural dimensions – were the focus of his practice-based PhD research at the Edinburgh College of Art\, University of Edinburgh\, funded by the Malta Arts Scholarship scheme.  Matthew is currently the solo artist representing the Malta Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale\, with the project ‘I WILL FOLLOW THE SHIP’\, commissioned by the Malta Arts Council and co-curated by Elyse Tonna and Sara Dolfi. \n  \nRaised in Malta\, in 2009 he moved to Venice and collaborated with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the USA Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2009 and 2011. Later\, he came back to Malta where in 2018 he obtained his Masters by Research Degree from the Digital Arts Department of the University of Malta. He first exhibited his work in a double solo show organised in 2014 at Galleria Michela Rizzo in Venice. Since then\, he has exhibited in Venice\, Rome\, Valletta\, Genoa\, London\, Beijing and Los Angeles among other cities. Also\, in 2017 he was selected for the 3rd edition of the ‘Le Latitudini dell’Arte‘ Biennale\, at the Palazzo Ducale\, Genoa\, while in 2018 he was awarded the Under 30 Euromobil Prize at ArteFiera\, Bologna. \n  \nHe was selected three times to show in the context of ‘Ten Artists to Watch’ at LACDA (Los Angeles Centre for Digital Arts) and in 2019 he was invited to participate in ‘ArtissimaTelephone’ at the OGR spaces in Turin. Recently\, he was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize 2021. ‘Rajt ma rajtx… naf li rajt‘ is one of Matthew’s major solo shows\, curated by Elyse Tonna at Valletta Contemporary in 2021. In 2022 he was commissioned the work ‘Here’s How I Did Not See What You Wanted Me To See’ as part of the OPEN digital residency at Blitz\, Valletta. His most recent solo show\, ‘Ship of Fools’\, took place in March 2023 at Galleria Michela Rizzo\, Venice.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”]\n More about Movimento\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

We will physically explore fluidity\, coordination\, groove and dynamics mostly through guided improvisation and simple contemporary dance techniques. \nIf you would like to join\, or are interested but have any questions\, get in touch with Zoe on her email zoe.camilleri1@gmail.com \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_column_text] \nCost\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]€12 drop in\n€40 for 4 sessions (monthly package) \n€140 for 16 sessions (4 month package)[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

After one week of working in our studios\, ŻfinMalta Artists in Residence Moritz Zavan Stoeckle\, Sara Accettura and Benjamin Cachia (Banjo Rancho) will be sharing their research and work in progress on ‘Ligo’ on Sunday 16th June at 11:00 \, ŻfinMalta Studios. \n  \n  \nIf you would like to attend the sharing kindly RSVP here indicating any guests: https://forms.gle/oNQSTvBTzcXwD5KD6\n  \n  \nFor the first sharing of the ŻfinMalta AiR2024 programme\, audiences are invited to view and give feedback on ‘Ligo’\, a work in progress to be premiered as part of Dance Festival Malta\, July 2024. Ligo To bind – to tie – to unite A lecture demonstration sharing the provisional results of ‘Ligo’ during ZfinMalta’s AiR2024\, in preparation for a 15 min duet to be performed as part of Dance Festival Malta. \n  \nThis research residency is inspired by collaborative practice\, the merging of tradition with innovation and finding a common ground for different movements and music practices between the three collaborators. “The concept behind our collaboration is to find different ways in which we can connect our dance backgrounds and create a dialogue between different traditions of dance practice. Using our knowledge of contemporary dance and classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam\, we are interested in finding hybrid choreographic approaches that can help develop a shared movement vocabulary” Moritz and Sara believe that a fundamental aspect of performing arts is communication. This is why they believe that collaboration can be extremely beneficial\, especially when working towards the creation of hybrid choreographies that use a multitude of languages. \n  \nAbout ŻfinMalta AiR2024 programme \nThe National Dance Company’s AiR programme is now in its seventh season. Established in 2018\, the programme offers locally based dance makers a space for research and dialogue.  ŻfinMalta welcomes and presents the work of both experienced and emerging artists based in the Maltese Islands\, who are currently undertaking choreographic research\, to develop and explore their work further in a new context.  The ŻfinMalta programme aims to provide the time and space for focus on the creation and development of movement-based work. Beyond the presentation of our first AiR for 2024\, expect presented works and research by our next artists in residence: Eve Cocks and Abigail Agius. Watch out for the ŻfinMalta AiR2025 call out for proposals\, come early 2025! \n  \nAbout the first ŻfinMalta Artists in Residence for 2024 \n  \nMoritz Zavan Stoeckle \n Moritz’s strongest background is in classical Indian Dance Bharatanatyam. He began practising such art form in 1995 and since then he always sought ways in which he could improve his knowledge of the style. Since 2000 Moritz started performing solo Bharatantyam performances in Europe and later in India as well. In 2005 he started his career as a lighting designer in Venice. The same year he started training in contemporary dance. In 2012 Moritz was awarded the audience prize of the GD’A Veneto (Giovani Danz’ Autori) with a choreography that was mixing elements of classical Indian dance and contemporary dance. In 2018 Moritz obtained a Master in Performance Studies (Dance) at the University of Malta. This allowed him to delve deeper into the craft of choreography. Using his heterogeneous background as an inspiration\, Moritz is interested in finding new approaches to develop choreographic material. \n  \nSara Accettura \nAfter achieving a diploma for dance teachers and a Master in choreography in Italy\, Sara graduated from London Contemporary Dance School (first class) where she eventually achieved a Master of Arts in Performance. Sara has danced for several companies\, amongst them National Dance Company of Wales\, Cedar Dance\, Diciembre Dance\, Combination Dance\, Leila Dance and Maddogs Dance. Sara has performed works by Schechter\, Galili\, Piquero\, Cienfuegos\, Raz\, Khoo\, Ronen\, Tranter\, Zavan Stoeckle\, Vella\, Sieni\, Petronio\, Randell\, McMIllan\, De Schynkel\, Bizas\, amongst the others. Sara’s works have received various awards\, including Fragments the overall winner at the International Dance Championship 2012 (Croatia) and first prize winner The White Butterfly at the Moscow International Dance Competition in 2015. With a strong interest in education\, Sara is pursuing her PhD in Dance and Autism at Bedfordshire University (UK). She is the artistic director of Junior Dance Company Bari and Malta\, Dance Master Class\, and the inclusive project Dance For All (Bari)\, Assistant Lecturer for the Dance Studies and the Disability Studies departments at the University of Malta\, dance leader and board member for Opening Doors Malta.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Twenty dancers come together to explore what unites the two islands through distinctive geographical and cultural landscapes. \nTaking inspiration from the Arctic Tern\, a bird known for having the longest migratory patterns on the planet\, ‘Geographers of Solitude’ is a conversation on diversity\, the fragility of different voices\, and fostering collective harmony. Just as these birds take shelter on both islands during their long journey\, the dancers on stage explore both itinerant and protracted island life and the dynamic interplay between solitude and communal\, on our individual and collective narratives. It delves into the notion of islands as a microcosm of the world at large – a contained environment where its inhabitants develop unique cultures and ways of organising societies. \nA co-production with Ballet d’Jèrri. \n  \nCast:\n(ŻfinMalta Dancers) Marti Blanco Romeu\, Pearl Calleja\, Lidia Caricasole\, Noemi Coin Andreotti\, Lotte La Haye\, Jérémie Lafon\, Keith Micallef\, Matteo Real\, Simon Riccardi-Zani\, Benjamin Spiteri (Apprentice dancer)\, Amber Van Veen \n  \n(Ballet d’Jèrri Dancers) Anna Daly\, Donovan Délis-McCarthy\, Tabitha Dombroski\, Yasset Roldan Garciarena\, Reece Hudson\, Ombline Noyer\, Hanna Szychowicz\, Stanley Young \n\n\n\nArtistic Team\n\nChoreography and Direction: Paolo Mangiola\nRehearsal Director: Alexis Oliveira\nVisuals: Matthew Attard\nDramaturgy: Victor Jacono\nOriginal Score: Dag Rosenqvist\nLight Design: Dali Aguerbi\nCostume Design: Alessandro Vigilante\nCostumier: Linda Rowell\nStylist: Holly Knowles\nSet Design: Gary Pace\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
