ŻfinMalta Studios
Following its previous offering at ŻfinMalta, The Listening Body returns building on its earlier iteration, inviting both new and returning participants into a renewed exploration of embodied listening, connection, and shared movement.

The Listening Body is a two-day immersive workshop led by community dance artist and educator Julienne Schembri, designed to help participants slow down, tune in, and rediscover movement as a source of awareness, wellbeing, and creativity. Centred around the idea of the listening body, this intensive explores how we attend to ourselves, to others, and to the environment through embodied presence. The process begins with the self, using BF-based exercises to cultivate internal awareness, breath, and sensory listening. From this grounded starting point, the work gradually expands outward, weaving in listening to others and moving in relation.

With a warm and inclusive approach, Julienne guides participants through somatic and improvisational practices that nurture curiosity, choice-making, and co-creation. Drawing on Space Harmony, the workshop introduces spatial knowledge — including proximity, distance, direction, and scale — as practical tools for interaction. Through supported partner and group explorations, participants develop simple group scores that highlight how individual movement contributes to collective composition.

Rooted in community dance practice, The Listening Body values inclusivity, accessibility, and lived experience, creating space for diverse bodies and movement histories. Perfect for all adults — including complete beginners — this workshop welcomes anyone seeking to reconnect with themselves through gentle movement, whether or not they have previous dance experience. It is particularly suited to those curious about the body and wishing to expand their somatic or improvisational practice. No experience in dance or movement is required.
