For the Iżfen ma’ ŻfinMalta programme, Moveo Dance Company offers open level ballet class designed for anyone with a basic knowledge of ballet who wishes to enjoy dancing in a supportive and uplifting environment. Moveo’s classes focus on technique, strength, and musicality while keeping a positive and enjoyable flow. Please wear comfortable dance clothing that allows free movement, and ballet shoes or socks. These classes are welcoming to all levels with prior ballet experience, offering both structure and fun in equal measure. Ballet with Diane Portelli (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th October)

Diane’s class combines technical refinement with a light, joyful flow. With many years of experience as a dancer, she shares the practical tips and little tricks she has gathered along the way to help you improve alignment, strength, and artistry. Her teaching style is hands-on and encouraging, creating an open space where dancers can enjoy moving while discovering new ways to deepen their technique.

 

Ballet with Dorian Mallia (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th November)

Dorian’s class emphasises strong fundamentals with a joyful, dynamic flow. Drawing on his many years of experience as both performer and teacher, he brings a depth of knowledge that supports dancers in finding clarity, strength, and artistry. His approach balances discipline with enjoyment, offering not only a solid technical foundation but also a fresh perspective on how to dance with longevity, ease, and inspiration at every stage of one’s journey.

About Diane

Diane Portelli is a dancer, choreographer, and director whose career spans performance, creation, and education. She trained at the Tanya Bayona Princess Poutiatine Academy of Ballet and The Dance Workshop before furthering her studies internationally with companies including Random Dance, Ultima Vez, and Hofesh Shechter. She has received several prestigious awards, among them two gold medals at the World Championships for Performing Arts in Hollywood, the Luisello Award for Spanish Dance, and the Duke of Ellington Award for Modern Dance.

 

Since joining Moveo Dance Company in 2013, Diane has grown from dancer to choreographer and later to director. Her works have been presented both locally and internationally, including for ŻfinMalta, the Malta International Arts Festival, and Valletta 2018, as well as the award-winning Diversely Typical and Frida. In 2018, together with Dorian Mallia, she was named “Artist of the Year” at the inaugural Premju Għall-Arti Awards, and in 2020 Moveo received the Best Creative Enterprise Award. Diane continues to make a strong impact on the Maltese and international dance scene through her creative vision and dedication to the art form.

About Dorian Mallia

Dorian Mallia is a highly regarded dance practitioner, choreographer, educator, and performer, and the founder and Artistic Director of Moveo Dance Company. He trained at JCDC (Malta), Central School of Ballet in London, earning a degree in Professional Dance and Performance, and later completed a Master’s in Performing Studies (Dance) at the University of Malta. Dorian has performed internationally with companies including European Ballet (UK), RBR Dance Company (Italy), LaMov (Spain), Paganini Dance Company (Rome), and Mavinkhoodance (Singapore).

 

Since establishing Moveo in 2008, he has led the company to national and international acclaim, with awards such as the Premju Għall-Arti “Artist of the Year” (2018) and the Best Creative Enterprise Award (2020). Alongside his creative work, he lectures at the University of Malta and MCAST and contributes to academic research, with writings featured in publications such as Breaking the Silence – Homosexuality in Maltese History. His career spans performance, choreography, and scholarship, establishing him as a leading figure in contemporary dance.
