Zoe Camilleri

Company Classes 2 1920x1080 ŻfinMalta National Dance Company

Contemporary with Zoe Camilleri

17th-21st November / 10:00-11:15

Join Zoe Camilleri for a week of contemporary dance classes that build progressively in energy, rhythm, and complexity. Sessions will focus on playing with dynamics—exploring how the body can manipulate time through concepts like inertia, suspension, and acceleration. Working on landing sharp accents with precision, while maintaining a sense of softness and fluidity in the transitions. Classes combine guided improvisation with set material, encouraging exploration, strength and sensitivity. This class is aimed for advanced and professional dancers.

Zoe Camilleri is a multidisciplinary artist based in Malta, working across contemporary dance and textile design.

She began dancing very young at the College of Dance in Malta. She later received a Malta Arts Scholarship to study at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 2014.

Zoe was part of the founding ensemble of ŻfinMalta, performing nationally and internationally—first as an apprentice, then as a full-time company dancer. During her time with the company, she worked with choreographers including Iván Pérez, Jose Agudo, Mavin Khoo, Athanasia Kanellopoulou, Francesca Tranter, Lucia Piquero, and Paolo Mangiola.

Since 2018, Zoe has worked as a freelance artist in roles including performer, choreographer, rehearsal and movement director, teacher, and costume coordinator across various projects within the island’s arts sector. Collaborations include Teatru Malta, The New Victorians, Contact Dance Company and Others Dance Theatre.

Her work with ŻfinMalta continues in various forms, including piloting and teaching Iżfen, an ongoing series of contemporary dance classes open to people from all dance backgrounds. She is a regular teacher for the company’s morning professional classes, has participated in multiple residencies supported by ŻfinMalta and guest performed in Weaving Chaos by choreographer Tânia Carvalho. She has coordinated costumes for ŻfinMade 2022 and for Simon Riccardi Zani’s Shades of Sandcastles, And The Others and Les Uns. She is also this year’s Associate Artist of ŻfinMalta.

Alongside her dance work, Zoe is the founder of Zowij.Makes, a slow-fashion label that transforms vintage and reclaimed textiles into one-of-a-kind, custom-made garments
