Francesco Ferrari

Company Classes 2 1920x1080 ŻfinMalta National Dance Company

Contemporary with Francesco Ferrari

24th-28th November / 10:00-11:15

Francesco’s class explores sequences of Floorwork and Release based material, alternated by sessions of guided improvisation and movement research. Inspired by personal practice, the physical language plays with friction, spirals and a 360° relation to space, aiming for a fluid, visceral, sensitive quality.

Born and raised in Italy, Francesco graduates from London Contemporary Dance School in 2013, to then join Scottish Dance Theatre as company dancer. During this time, he works on creations by renowned choreographers, such as Damien Jalet, Anton Latchky, Botis Seva, Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, Jorge Crecis, Fleur Darkin. He later covers the role of Project Rehearsal Director for the company, working on choreographies by Emanuel Gat, Colette Sadler and Joan Clevillé, whilst freelancing across UK, France, Lebanon, Italy and Germany. He performs for productions like ‘Planet [wanderer]’ and ‘Vessel’ by Damien Jalet and Kohei Nawa, ‘Cents Mille Façons de Parler’ by Omar Rajeh, ‘Danse Macabre!’ by Jacopo Jenna, ‘Inlet’ by Saeed Hani, ‘ANIMA’, Netflix production directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and choreographed by Damien Jalet. His collaboration with Fleur Darkin develops towards their co-creation of ‘Ithaca’, which is presented as a work in progress in Milan, London, St Andrews and Glasgow. In 2024, as part of ‘Venere in Teatro’ festival in Venice, Francesco performs his first solo work ‘Hide and Reveal’, of which a live-set version has been recently presented in Milan, in collaboration with Scottish-Portuguese sound artist and musician SHHE. Throughout the years, Francesco has also been developing a teaching practice, leading workshops and classes in various contexts, focusing on floorwork, improvisation and movement exploration.
