ŻfinMalta invites applications from Malta-based choreographers to take part in SPECTRUM, a programme supporting the creation of new dance works within the context of a national repertory dance company.
Conceived as a catalyst for dance development in Malta, SPECTRUM will bring together three short works that offer distinct artistic reflections on contemporary Malta. Selected choreographers will create new work with ŻfinMalta dancers, supported by the company’s artistic, rehearsal, and production teams.
The performance will contain three unique reflections on contemporary Malta. This may draw on the artists lived experience, identity, history and cultures. ŻfinMalta are particularly interested in work with an international outlook, that addresses Malta’s place within the world.
ŻfinMalta are interested in working with artists who have a distinct perspective or practice, that places ŻfinMalta in dialogue with a unique reflection of Malta.
For ŻfinMalta to be contemporary means to be engaged with now, the present moment. We are not fixed to one form of movement, but a contemporary approach to dance that challenges fixed ideas about the body in movement. Artists may come from any movement form or background, but their practice must engage critically with this concept.
